Amaraya Foundation on May 7, 2026, hosted a highly impactful STEM Advocacy Workshop in Owerri themed “STEM: Pathway to the Future,” aimed at inspiring students to embrace innovation, science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and robotics. Held at Ephphatha High School in collaboration with Justin Chiemela Okoroama, the event brought together students, educators, and STEM advocates in an engaging atmosphere of learning, creativity, and practical discovery.
The workshop featured interactive and hands-on sessions designed to expose students to the real-world applications of STEM concepts. In the opening presentation, Prof. Rafiat Bada Abubakar taught students the practical relevance of mensuration, explaining two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes and their applications in engineering and infrastructure. She particularly highlighted the use of ellipses in bridge construction and structural designs.
Further enriching the session, the Foundation’s Director of Programs, Dr. Udechukwu Peter Egbuhuzor, introduced students to the application of Mathematics in all spheres of life such as medical, Economics, Solid and fluid mechanics, etc. He explained how mathematical models help detect pipeline deformation or cracks, monitor efficiency, and evaluate economic value in the oil sector, encouraging students to view and love Mathematics as a solution-driven discipline.
Another major highlight was the robotics and smart farming session facilitated by Grace Gibson, who demonstrated how modern technologies and robotic systems are improving agricultural productivity and food security, also, she applied robotics in demonstrating how to build smart doors and traffic lights. Students actively participated in the practical demonstrations, question-and-answer sessions, educational games, and a Mathematical Darts Competition coordinated by Dr. Egbuhuzor, with winners receiving prizes. The students also enjoyed refreshments, snacks, and fun games, creating a memorable blend of education and entertainment.
Speaking at the event, Amaraya Foundation’s President, High Chief Amarachi Kingsley Ogu (Ugwu Mbaise 1), encouraged students to remain focused on their studies and develop strong interest in STEM-related fields essential for future global development. In appreciation, the proprietor – Mrs Nsofor Akwaugo of Ephphatha High School expressed her immense gratitude to the foundation and promised to improve on their STEM education.
