AMARAYA FOUNDATION LIGHTS UP MBAISE WITH MATHEMATICS COMPETITION

Amaraya Foundation (AF) which is known for touching lives of the indigent and less privileged in the society recently concluded its maiden edition of all Mbaise Mathematics competition organized for all Senior Secondary Schools in the three Local Governments that make up Mbaise clan namely: Aboh, Ahiazu and Ezinihitte Mbaise LGAs.

Amaraya Foundation which was established by an illustrious son of Ahiazu Mbaise and a Mozambique-based business tycoon, Comrade Amarachi Kingsley Ogu has empowered many women and youths, built houses for the less privileged, award of scholarships and as well established Amaraya Football Club for the sole purpose of harnessing talents of young people in the society.

In his welcome address, the Director General (DG) of Amaraya Foundation, Comrade Oguamanam Kelechi, disclosed that the competition was aimed at to encourage students towards academic excellence.

Speaking further, the DG hinted that about 73 candidates from 73 secondary schools participated in the first stage of the competition at the designated centres in each of the three LGA’s whereby 41 participants were eliminated leaving 32 participants to compete at the 2nd stage of the competition.He reiterated that after the painstaking assessment by the team of professionals that conducted the exercise, Master Onwumere Kelechi Daniel of Independent Baptist High School, Mbutu in Aboh Mbaise came first, clinching the 2nd position was, Miss Nwachukwu Divine of Epiphany College Ihitte in Ezinihitte Mbaise, while Master Njoku Jeremiah Okwara of City Comprehensive Secondary School, Itu Ezinihitte Mbaise took 3rd position.

The Director General of Amaraya Foundation equally used the opportunity to thank the President/CEO of Amaraya Foundation, Comr. Amarachi Ogu for his benevolence and kind gestures to the well being of others thereby praying for God to continue to bless him as he touches lives.

The Chairman of the occasion, Chief Peter Ojilere expressed his happiness for identifying with Amaraya Foundation. He further described mathematics as a very important subject. Chief Ojilere maintained that what Comrade. Amarachi Ogu is doing in the life of many is out of his magnanimity, goodwill and not to gain any political position.

Earlier in his speech, the guest speaker, Prof. Kevin E. Osondu, who is a Professor of Mathematics stated that Mathematics is an interesting subject that opens door of success in every human endeavor. He also advocated for an increase in teachers remuneration to further motivate them in giving their best to students. Prof. Osondu equally thanked Amaraya Foundation for organizing such competition to improve the teaching and learning of Mathematics.

In his remarks, the overall best Student in the all Mbaise Senior Secondary Schools Mathematics competition, Master Onwumere Kelechi Daniel, applauded the CEO and management of Amaraya Foundation, Comrade Amarachi Kingsley Ogu for the privilege to be part of the maiden mathematics competition. He prayed for God to strengthen the foundation to continue in its good works in the society.

Highlights of the occasion was the presentation of cash gift to the winners of the competition and lots of other consolation prizes to other participants at the competition as a way to encourage other students to take mathematics serious. Also awards were presented to some deserving individuals who has contributed immensely to the learning and teaching of mathematics in Mbaise and the society at large. The who received the awards were Prof Kevin Osondu of Mathematics Department (FUTO), Dr Udechukwu Egbuhuzo of Mathematics Department (FUTO) and a retired Secondary School Mathematics Teacher, Mr Luke Uwazie.

The event attracted lots of dignitaries amongst whom is the Eze-elect of Lude Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Cyril Uwaoma PhD, HRH Eze (Dr.) Pius Onyekwere of Nnarambia Autonomous Community, Rev. Fr. Cajetan Ukachi, Dr. Udechukwu Egbuhuzor, Prof Gerald Onuoha (FUTO), Chairman of the planning committee, Prince Peters and many others.
