THE FOURTH EDITION OF AN “ALL MBAISE SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS MATHEMATICS COMPETITION”- AMSSSMC 2024

Amaraya Foundation, a non-profit and humanitarian organization in her desire to enhance human capacity building in our society by encouraging and rewarding academic excellence initiated this competition having observed the dwindling and lack of interest and dedication of most students to the study of Mathematics, a vital subject in scientific and technological advancement.

PREAMBLE:

  • The 1st Edition of the competition was held in 2021.
  • Registration is 100% free for all participants.
  • Those who are eligible to participate in this 4th/ 2024 Edition are only SS2 students from WAEC accredited and government approved secondary schools (Private and Public) in Mbaise and some selected schools outside Mbaise as a pilot survey of the expansion of the scope of the Series.
  • Enrollment of SS3 student shall be considered as FRAUD and such Schools/Candidates shall be disqualified and sanctioned from participating in future editions.
  • Each school can enroll a maximum of FIVE (5) credible candidates.
  • Only candidates duly identified and approved by the Principals/school authority in the Participant Information Form shall be accredited and allowed to participate in the competition.
  • NOTE: Candidates shall be admitted and assessed on individual basis despite being the representatives of their institutions.
  • The Foundation may set up special tutorial centres (Mathematics Clinics) across Mbaise as a measure to prepare the students for the Competition and SSCE examination.
  • The questions for the competition shall be within the syllable for SS2 class.
  • The questions for the Elimination stage shall be FIFTY (50) multiple choice questions, while the Championship stage shall comprise of both subjective (workings shown) and objective (Multiple Choice) questions.
  • The questions shall be set and marked by independent WAEC certified mathematics teachers of repute. A copy of the marking guide MUST be submitted to the organiser by the independent assessors’ at the end of each examination day.
  • The Committee has the reserved right to choose the cut off mark (based on overall performance of candidates) that would qualify candidates to move to the Championship stage of the competition. However, on NO circumstance should the Cut off mark be lower than 40 marks.
  • The maximum time for every examination shall be THREE (3) hours and all examinations commence by 10am prompt. No participant would be admitted into the hall after 30 minutes of commencement of examination.

PRIZES AND AWARDS:
Note: All items are customized for the 2024 edition of the competition. Prizes and awards shall be given as follows:
• Overall Best Winner shall receive a plaque, a gold plated medal and instant cash reward of N200,000 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira) only during the Award Ceremony.
• First Runner-Up shall receive a plaque, a silver plated medal and cash reward of N150,000 (One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) only
• 2nd Runner-Up shall receive a plaque, a bronze medal and cash reward of N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) only.

  • There shall be consolation prizes/rewards of cash N 20,000 (Twenty Thousand Naira) only for next
    TEN (10) runners up.
  • 2024 WAEC REGISTRATION for the Top Thirteen (13) participants by our Foundation.
  • There shall be appreciation in the form of cash token (N30,000 only) for the Mathematics teacher of the Overall winner and 15,000 each for the next Top Four (4) Mathematics teachers.
  • In a case of joint winners, the Organiser shall call for either a “Tie Breaker Assessment or a Re- assessment of examination scripts submitted by the students.
  • All winners shall be issued certificates by the Foundation. (A total of 13 certificates for the students)

This 4th Edition (AMSSSMC 2024) of the Competition has also been structured to hold in THREE (3) stages as below:

THE ELIMINATION STAGE:
This 4th edition elimination examination would be held in SIX (6) centres across Mbaise. Proximity of examination centres to schools would encourage more students and schools to enroll and participate in the competition.

  • The elimination examination has been slated to hold simultaneously across the SIX (6) centres on
    Saturday, 13th July, 2024.
    These centres are as follows:
  • ABOH Mbaise Zone: Mbaise Secondary School, Aboh, Mother Mary Coleman Memorial Girls’ Secondary School, Ogbor Nguru
  • AHIAZU Mbaise Zone: Pater Noster Secondary School, Ekwereazu, St. Patrick Secondary School, Ogbe, Ahiara.
  • EZINIHITTE Mbaise Zone: Okpofe Secondary School, Mbaise Girls’ Secondary School.

THE CHAMPIONSHIP STAGE:
This stage designed to select the winners has been scheduled to hold on Saturday, 25th October, 2024 at St. Patrick’s Secondary School, Ogbe Ahiara, Ahiazu Mbaise.

THE AWARDS AND CEREMONIES:
This grand finale (Awards and Ceremonies) of this edition has been scheduled to hold on a Yet to be Announced Venue and Date in December, 2024.
